July 24 x Spain

When I look at this place, the beauty around me, I’m overcome with this feeling of overwhelming numbness… such unbelievable numbness that I feel like I’m going to explode. I can’t take being here anymore, because everything is so unbelievably perfect and wonderful in every way.

This ‘estate’, as Juan (one of the guides who picked us up from the airport) calls it, looks like something that came out of an intense issue of architectural digest. It’s a palace; it’s more than a palace. Its absolute Spanish perfection. Beautiful white walls block the entire outside world from the peaceful bubble created inside. Cobblestoned driveways and pathways everywhere, beautiful gardens and trees…it feels like you’re visiting some sort of crazy museum. There are magnificent, ancient paintings everywhere that feel like they were stolen out of the Louvre. THE LOUVRE! Even the china they use for every meal (full courses for breakfast, lunch and dinner) looks like it needs to be placed behind some sort of dangerously protected sheet of glass; nine inches thick. Delicious local wine is served at lunch and dinner, and I have enjoyed every bit of it. I’ve never felt red wine go down so smoothly. Its perfect.
